Micro-Fragmented Adipose Tissue as a Natural Scaffold for Targeted Drug Delivery in Brain Cancer

Major limitations in the effective treatment of neurological cancer include systemic cytotoxicity chemotherapy, inaccessibility, and inoperability. The capability to successfully target a drug tumor site(s) without incurring serious side effects—especially case aggressive tumors, such as glioblastoma neuroblastoma—would represent significant breakthrough therapy. Orthotopic systems, capable storing releasing proteins over prolonged period at site tumor, that utilize nanoparticles, liposomes, hydrogels have been proposed. One candidate for delivery is Micro-Fragmented Adipose Tissue (MFAT). Easily obtained from patient by abdominal subcutaneous liposuction (autologous), with high content Mesenchymal Stem Cells (MSCs), mechanically derived nanofat natural tissue graft structural scaffold organization. It has well-preserved stromal vascular fraction capacity secrete anti-tumorigenic concentrations pre-absorbed chemotherapeutics within extracellular vesicles. This review discusses current evidence supporting potential drug-modified MFAT respect recent preclinical vitro studies. Possible future perspectives are considered.
